Tree Ring
This game was made for the GMTK2025 Game Jam
When I heard the jam was coming up, I took this as an opportunity to learn Godot Engine I hope that explains why there's missing music/sound/etc, most of my focus was coding. I have a lot to say about this project which I hope to add to a devlog. I included a commentary in the game as well.
Tree Ring
You are a tiny seedling trying to get big and strong to be a real tree. As you spin around your tree ring you must choose risk or reward. Do you stick close to the core, gaining bark and upgrades? Or do you expand to outer rings to build score and multiplier.
Gameplay:
Tree Ring is a platformer where you travel in a loop going in one direction. Each time you pass through the finish you are given a choice of upgrades for both you and the enemy seeds.
To win: Achieve a score of 1000 or higher.
Controls:
A and D - Left and right.
Space - Jump* (When clinging on walls you can always jump)
W - Regress towards the core.
S - Ascend away from the core.
M - Mute music
Ring 1:
The enemy cannot reach you here but can still get stronger. Gain a small amount of points but also gain bark.
Ring 2:
The enemy is present here, moving around the ring reduces your seeds by half but in return increases your score multiplier and gives you additional score.
Ring 3:
The final ring gives some score, but gives a big boost to your bark multiplier. Making your Ring 1 much more effective as you can take additional blows.
